Hideouts

I warned you, didn’t I? I told you I had rotary layout syndrome, and did anybody listen? No. And now it’s happened again! Well, you’ve got your comeuppance! Here it is, yet another new theme! Reason: last one too plain. Side Note: I get the feeling I’ve seen this theme on somebody else’s site (or maybe tumblr), so wanted to clarify that I’m not meaning to copy (sorry!)- if anything, you’re a subliminal trend setter. Edit: Turns out, Chynna is the victim of my crime!

Everything is slowly getting sorted for my move to London, which is only a few weeks away now. I’m completely absorbed with excitement. I spent four hours budgeting the other day, and although I’d like to think I put in a good effort, I reckon it’ll be totally wrong in practise. Cue a fortnight of monitoring my spending! FUN. To top it off, I don’t actually get my student loan until a fortnight after I arrive so I have to self-fund until then. More FUN.

One of the things I seriously underestimated is how much a fresh start actually costs. If we exclude everything I’m already paying by way of loan for studying and living at university, I’m still nowhere near done when it comes to shelling out on things. My eye sight prescription changed, meaning my parents (who agreed to pay) have had to order both a new set of contacts and a new pair of glasses. I chose a basic range pair (i.e. not designer), I get NHS support (for being so young) and I have a service agreement with the branch, but I still rank up a cost which is kind of ridiculous, let alone if I had no parental support. And apart from that, there’s all my kitchenware and stationary. Boy, now I know how shops make their money!

I’m already beginning to miss all the little hideouts around my hometown. We have this tiny, adorable train station which looks almost vintage. We used to catch a lot of trains to various places when I was younger, so I always remember sitting there and covering my ears when the trains came in and out of the station because they were so noisy. And there is a damn with rivers running into it where boats park up and they sell ice cream in summer, and hold an annual Bonfire Night event in November with toffee apples abundant. (I don’t really like Toffee apples, but the concept is nice.) I know I’m not leaving for good, but it’s definitely not going to be the same anymore. It’s always going to be my hometown, though.

The past few nights, I’ve managed to see three films on my watch list. That is Richard Ayoade’s The Double. I love Richard Ayoade as a director- his films are unique, and very characteristic to him as a person. There’s no popular entertainment value; it’s all just under the surface meaning. If you’re into heavy imagery, symbolic sort of films, it’s a must watch. All of his films, in fact. I also saw Transcendence, which I have to admit did not have nearly as much depth- it began with a nice concept, but ended up a little stand-offish. Lastly, I’ve just seen Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, which was pretty fantastic- I’m sure most of you have probably seen it. That one doesn’t need explaining, it just needs watching. Yeah, so I thought I’d finish on this little film update. And some questions for you!

  • What is the last film you watched and did you like it?
  • Name one place in your hometown you remember well.

I’m so glad you are sorting out a budget before you go. It will be so beneficial to you when you move out. Not enough students do it and then all they do if moan that they don’t have any money after the first month.

Best of luck with the move! It’s natural to miss home and your home town but you will soon get use to being away. Just look at me, I never want to go back home!

The last movie I watched was Sin City and I loved it! There’s nothing in particular to name in my home town because it’s so small, but it is home to the muller yoghurt factory. Oh yeah!

The theme is A-AMAZING, seriously, plus, I hope you have a great time in London. Yeah, when you do leave a place that you’ve known forever, you miss everything about the place such as those hideouts. I’ve actually never seen Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. I think I’ll watch it, if it is on Netflix. But I wish you luck 🙂

Yaaaaassss, this is a theme I’ve used before 🙂 I loved it! But you know us bloggers, never satisfied with one theme.

I am SO excited that you are coming to London. Like, the fact that I will actually get to meet someone I’ve known for years is so exciting. Let me sit down and take it in.

I really want to see The Double! Richard Ayoade actually lives in the same town as me, and my friend has seen him in the big Sainsburys that we have with his family. Paul McGann also lives in the same town… just name dropping here. Clearly London was the best choice for you to come to, tbh.

I finally got round to watching Captain America: The Winter Solider. I enjoyed it a lot because Bucky and explosions. Also the post-credit scene *_* AHH!

Oh my gosh! I’m so jealous that you’re getting to study abroad in London! Good luck with that. I’ve heard that their food is absolutely amazing, and will make you think twice about eating our food again. Haha! That’s what I’ve heard happened to Aaron Goodwin from Ghost Adventures. He went to Italy or England (one or the two) and loved their food so much that he started to eat just like them and lost a lot of weight because of that! Good luck in your studies in London. I’m sure you’ll love it.

RE: My initial goal is to become a Computer Scientist. I’ve been told that Computer Science is one of the top fields with the most jobs availability that most people don’t want to do this because it involves a LOT of math.

Black board is something new to me. However, I’ve been told that most colleges if not all colleges are using this system nowadays to see whether or not the students have plagiarized their work. Some Professors have their students use turnitin.com so they can see whether or not it’s been copied from somewhere or someone else before. Tricky! I never knew that existed until a few days ago.
